Power should be back on in all SCS spaces affected by yesterday's
electrical outage. Right now, all the buildings affected are relying on
a very large emergency generator parked next to the transformer
grotto between Newell-Simon and Planetary Robotics. There is
a question whether the generator, which sits on a large semi-trailer,
is beefy enough to carry the full load of Roberts, Newell-Simon, Doherty,
Hamburg, Smith, Scaife, Purnell, Planetary Robotics, Old Student Center,
and parts of the FMS building during a day when the temperature is
expected to rise into the low 80's. So the word today and until a
permanent fix is made is to conserve energy in those buildings as
much as possible. Make sure you turn off unneeded lights and computer
equipment that is not being used locally or remotely. If you can stand it,
turn up your office thermostat a bit. Let's give FMS as much head-room
as possible while they are dealing with this power crisis.
